Armenian Dances

Commissioned by the Landmarks Orchestra, this work is a suite in two parts of folk melodies from Armenia. The first movement is based on a melody titled Donagan Haiastan (Festive Armenia) and by Armenian composer Khatchatur Avetisyan. The second movement is based on melodies from the Vasbouragan, a region that was part of Western Armenia before WWI and is now part of Eastern Turkey. Read a short blog about the history of this region.

Premiered on August 17th 2016; Boston, MA USA @ DCR Hatch Shell.
